An understanding of domain name setup, FTP, changing directory privileges and web servers is required. Please read the terms of the license prior to installation. >> Overview You can create many web sites (called "webspaces"). Each webspace has a unique URL such as http://gardening.example.org or http://pottery.example.org . This guide covers a four step installation; uploading AROUNDMe collaboration server, setting up your domain, running the installer and finally accessing and testing your installation. >> Pre installation checks AROUNDMe collaboration server requires a web server running either Apache 1.3/2.x or IIS5/IIS6 with PHP5.x installed including Curl, BCMath and GD library. AROUNDMe collaboration server additionally requires a MySQL 4.1 or MySQL 5.0 database. The installer does it's best to check for these things and inform you, so if in doubt the best strategy is to continue. >> Extracting and uploading Download the latest release of AROUNDMe collaboration server and unzip/untar it onto your local computer. FTP upload ALL the files up to a directory on your webserver. Write down the path to the index.php file which will be something like: /public_html/aroundme_c_20080327/aroundme_c/ The above path will be used for all following examples. >> Setting up your webspace subdomains * Multiple webspaces with wildcard subdomains There are many ways to set up AROUNDMe collaboration server. If you would like to run a service whereby anyone can create a webspace with or without your approval go to Appendix A. * Manual subdomain creation You can install AROUNDMe so that you manually create subdomains which is the option you will probably have if you are on a shared hosting account. This means you manually point http://gardening.example.org to your installation then set up a webspace called 'gardening'. If you would like this option please go to Appendix B. * One webspace with no sub domains If you do not have access to create sub domains and you only want one webspace which will be your main web site go to Appendix C. * Locahost installation for testing If you are testing this installation on your local computer please see Appendix D. >> Installing AROUNDMe collaboration server The installer will ask you for your OpenID account. If you do not have one you have three options: 1. Obtain an account from a service such as http://barnraiser.info/ 2. Download and install AROUNDMe Personal identity and set up your own identity. AROUNDMe Personal identity is free software and available from http://www.barnraiser.org/ 3. Download and install AROUNDMe identity server and set up an OpenID identity account service. AROUNDMe identity server is free software and available from http://www.barnraiser.org/ Open your browser and type in your main domain URL. You will be presented with an installation screen. Follow the instructions on screen. Once complete AROUNDMe collaboration server will be installed and you will be taken to a maintainance screen where you can create your first webspace. >> Testing your installation Create a webspace by clicking 'create webspace'. Follow the instructions to create your first webspace. If you installed AROUNDMe collaboration server with the option of 'automatic creation' you can follow the link to your new webspace. If you installed AROUNDMe collaboration server with the option of 'maintainer approval' you will need to return to the maintainance screen, list webspaces, select it and set the status of the webspace to 'live', then follow the link to the webspace. Press 'connect' and enter your OpenID URL and press 'GO'. You will now be taken to your own OpenID and asked for your password. Look up at the browser URL and confirm that it displays your OpenID URL. If so enter your password. Follow through your usual OpenID authentication process. Afterwards you will be returned to your webspace where you will be logged in. Your installation is fully working. See the Quickstart guide on our web site for a more information on creating your web site. Please note that you can log into your maintainance area at any time by typing in http://example.org/maintain.php into a browser. >> Adding registration You can include a link to a remote registration script for people to obtain an OpenID account without having to leave your web site. You can either install your own OpenID server or use a service: You can download and install AROUNDMe identity server and set up an OpenID identity account service. AROUNDMe identity server is free software and available from http://www.barnraiser.org/ . Alternatively you are welcome to use Barnraisers OpenID server, but if comes with no uptime garantee. The URL is http://barnraiser.info/register.php?remote=1 If you have a remote registration URL open aroundm_c/core/config/core.config.php and locate the line: $core_config['openid_account_registration'] = ""; and add in your URL: $core_config['openid_account_registration'] = "http://barnraiser.info/register.php?remote=1"; Save it and you will see a registration button appear in the webspace connect page. >> Adding automated email notifications If you would like email digests and notifications sent out please go to Appendix E. >> Appendix A – installation for a multiple webspaces To create an installation where you can choose a webspace name such as 'research' and have the webspace URL work from http://research.example.org you need wildcard domains pointing to your webserver. You can test this by typing the following domains into your browser: http://www.example.org http://foo.example.org http://example.org All of these should go to your webserver. If they do, then you are ready to continue to install AROUNDMe identity server. If not, contact your Internet service provider support team and request that all subdomains be pointed to your webserver. Point your main domain name to the installation path. Each Internet service provider has a different way to set up this. Look through your control panel and if in doubt contact your Internet service provider support team and ask them "How do I point http://example.org (including all sub domains) to /public_html/aroundme_c_20080327/aroundme_c/ "? Once set up continue with 'Installing AROUNDMe collaboration server'. If you cannot setup wilcard domains go to Appendix B. >> Appendix B – Manual sub domain based webspaces If you are on a shared hosting solution you will probably be able to manually create subdomains. For each webspace that you require you will need to create a sub domain and point it to your installation. We use an example webspace name of 'research' here. Point your main domain name and each sub domains to the installation path. Each Internet service provider has a different way to set up this. Look through your control panel and if in doubt contact your Internet service provider support team and ask them "How do I point http://example.org and http://research.example.org to /public_html/aroundme_c_20080327/aroundme_c/ "? Once set up continue with 'Installing AROUNDMe collaboration server'. When you come to create webspaces you must choose a webspace URL that matches your subdomain; in this case 'research'. >> Appendix C – One webspace with no sub domains We assume that you have either one subdomain such as http://research.example.org/ or one domain such as http://www.example.org and that you want one webspace that you create to show when use use that URL. Create a file in the directory called '.htaccess': /public_html/aroundme_c_20080327/aroundme_c/.htaccess Copy the texts below into it and save. #start of copy into .htaccess for research subdomain ................ RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^research\.example\.org [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://research.example.org/$1 [R=301,L] #end of copy into .htaccess ................ #start of copy into .htaccess for main www domain ................ RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.org [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.org/$1 [R=301,L] #end of copy into .htaccess ................ Once set up continue with 'Installing AROUNDMe collaboration server'. As soon as complete installation you will be taken to the maintainance area. Press the 'Configure' menu item. Under 'Domains' you will see Parse and render. Make the changes listed below. research: change... /(.*?)\.research.example.com/ http://REPLACE.research.example.com/ to.... /(.*?)\.example.com/ http://REPLACE.example.com/ www: change... /(.*?)\.www.example.com/ http://REPLACE.www.example.com/ to.... /(.*?)\.example.com/ http://REPLACE.example.com/ When you come to create webspaces you will be prompted to pick a webspace URL. Enter 'research' or 'www'. >> Appendix D – localhost installation for testing If you are installing on a localhost then there is a good chance that you are a different user that your web server. You therefore need to alter the owner of the AROUNDMe collaboration server files and modify their permissions. Establish the owner name of your web server (in this example we use Apache). Type 'ps aux' into your command line and look for processes with the name 'apache'. You will see the owner; in this case 'www-data': Change the owner recursively ( -R) to 'www-data' on the AMc directory. chown -R www-data //aroundme_c/ You may need to be connected as root to do this. If the operating system reports that you do not have permissions then repeat the equivalent command as root (example for Ubuntu): sudo chown -R www-data //aroundme_c/ Next modify the permissions: chmod -R 770 //aroundme_c/ The following uses the example webspace name of 'gardening'. The following assumes you have access to edit your Apache vhosts file which is typically held in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ (backup then edit 000-default). Then add the texts below. Once complete restart Apache. ServerName gardening.localhost DocumentRoot /home/www/aroundme_c/aroundme_c DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.html index.htm index.shtml You can create multiple vhost entries to test for multiple webspaces. Once set up continue with 'Installing AROUNDMe collaboration server'. >> Appendix E – CRON 1. Open aroundm_c/core/config/core.config.php. Locate the line $core_config['php']['cron_active'] = 0; change to $core_config['php']['cron_active'] = 1; and save. 2. Adding forum tracking notifications to cron Forum notifications are sent to whomever requested one when someone adds a reply to a discussion in the forum. Use CPanel or similar or edit your cron file directly from a command line editor (crontab -e) You should consider the number of projected users, the number of projected notifications, the number of mail servers and the processing speed of your server when doing this. If you are unsure and you just want to get up and running set this to execute every 15 minutes add: 10,25,40,55 * * * * /usr/bin/php -q //aroundme_c/plugins/barnraiser_forum/cron/send_subject_email_notification.cron.php 3. Adding forum digest newsletters to cron Forum digests are sent daily, weekly or monthly as per user request. Use CPanel or similar or edit your cron file directly from a command line editor (crontab -e) You should consider the number of projected users, the number of projected notifications, the number of mail servers and the processing speed of your server when doing this. If you are unsure and you just want to get up and running set this to execute every 15 minutes add: 0,15,30,45 * * * * /usr/bin/php -q //aroundme_c/plugins/barnraiser_forum/cron/send_digest.cron.php >> Appendix F – Installation into your www root directory For reason we cannot explain some ISP's will not give you access to direct your sub-domains to a sub-directory. If you are unlucky enough to be one of these individuals here is how you install into the www root directory: 1. Take all the files and directories in aroundme_c_20080327/aroundme_c/ and put them in your www root directory. 2. Take all the files and directories except aroundme_c/ and put them in your www root directory. 3. Rename the asset/ directory to something less obvious such as asset_AH32. 4. Manually edit the core/config/core.config.php file in a text editor. 5. Go to line 113 and replace: $core_config['file']['dir'] = "../asset/"; With $core_config['file']['dir'] = "asset_AH32/"; Save your config file. 6. Proceed as above with a normal installation. // END OF DOCUMENT -------------------------------------------------------------------
